Yukio Shakunaga

Born in Tateyama Town in 1954.

His grandfather, Shojiro Shakunaga, devoted himself to the revival of Ecchu Seto ware.

In 1975, he took over the Shorakugama kiln. He was influenced by Mr. Haruzo Hayashiya and studied under Mr. Bizen, Sozan Kaneshige. He experienced pottery making at Icheon Kiln, Mungyeong Kiln, and Cheongju Kiln in Korea.

When he held a solo exhibition in Kyoto, the late Steve Jobs stopped by his gallery, an encounter that resulted in years of correspondence and a close client relationship.

His works have been exhibited in New York, Milan, Taipei, and Hungary.

Certified as a "Master of Traditional Crafts" in Toyama Prefecture.
